In Turkey, i had mentioned before in this blog how journalism is absurdly confusing choice of career to pursue. Journalists usually advice to work at news desk (haber masası) or at News Agencies. Because the newspapers are not oriented to news anymore more they have other objects to "care". So one could learn news making at least at the news agencies, with professionals and by a style similar to the painters, by observing.
I am not sure how much it is introduced The Turkish Press Law at Journalism departments of Universities or how should a journalist approach and know his/her profession by its legal context, the cohesion of journalistic work is mostly based on some known relatives or the experience you had while working anyway but in, say, "stressful times" journalists are feeling so much under pressure and fear, or stress, despair.
I was an eager computer programmer or at least curious of it when I was 10 and I used to take my father to Kadikoy Akmar pasaji to buy programming language books and read them to learn them, which was interesting for me. The more I learned I have discovered to know much wasn't really useful for me because I wasn't working for a company or anything because the codes, utilities, libraries of those programming languages I have read for the purpose of professional issues say web sites for companies or programs like photoshop or ftp softwares, I knew how I could produce such programs because I knew the language but yet I was at primary school it was interesting but I only used it for my personal web sites or essays.
I want to get to the point, for the codes you have kind of colours, a palette and you learn to how to utilise them which is the basics of computer programming. My life went on as an autodidact then I guess because I could manage to educate myself.
I guess reading the Press Law, its codes and reading some good journalists is the autodidact way of learning this profession and reading the law is especially important.
As journalists are ignorant of the legal base of their profession they lose their palette for producing, which leads them to different orientations.
